Providing Meals to Those in Need

Rose Report: Issue 33

Meals for the Homeless

What do 3,936 slices of ham + 2,040 slices of cheese + 196 loaves of bread + 4,000 water bottles + 5,940 accompaniments + dozens of Rose Financial Services’ employees and friends equal? The answer is 1,950—1,950 meals for the homeless, that is.

RFS is passionate about giving back to the community, and helping the homeless has become an integral part of the company’s culture. Since 2008, the RFS team has looked forward to its signature biannual philanthropic event: making meals for the homeless.

As part of RFS Gives Back Foundation, twice a year the RFS staff volunteers with Meals for the Homeless to provide meals to assist those in need. This August, the RFS team came together to shop for food and supplies, assemble 1,950 meals, and then donate them to Nourish Now, an organization that redistributes directly to over 600 families in need each month and to over 90 local nonprofit organizations that provide food assistance. Nourish Now’s programs are designed to alleviate food insecurity, and ultimately, the additional symptoms of poverty.

“Our Meals for the Homeless effort is a great way for our team members to bond with one another,” said RFS CEO Ted Rose. “The RFS team’s efforts ensured that 1,950 meals were not skipped by our local homeless community.”

On any given night in the U.S., more than 500,000 people are homeless. Of that number, over 200,000 are people in families and a quarter of the entire group are children. In fact, according to the American Institutes for Research, one in every 30 children experiences homelessness every year in the U.S. Unfortunately, the homeless population is also most vulnerable to food insecurity and hunger.

“I am proud that so many of our employees participated in this great cause,” said Rose. “Together we are making a real difference.”
